Art songs

Art Songs are songs created for performance in their own right, usually with piano accompaniment, although they can also have other types of accompaniment such as an orchestra or string quartet, and are always notated. Generally they have an identified author(s) and composer and require voice training for acceptable performances. German-speaking communities use the term art song ("Kunstlied") to distinguish "serious" compositions from folk song ("Volkslied"). The lyrics are often written by a poet or lyricist and the music separately by a composer. Art songs may be more formally complicated than popular or folk songs, though many early Lieder by the likes of Franz Schubert are in simple form strophic form. They are often important to national identity.
Art songs feature in many European cultures, including but not limited to: Russian (romansy), German (Lieder), Italian (canzoni), French (mélodies), Scandinavian (sånger), Spanish (canciones). There are also highly regarded British and American art songs in the English language. Cultures outside of Europe that have a classical music tradition, such as India, may or may not feature art songs.
The accompaniment of European art songs is considered as an important part of the composition. The art song of the period in which they originally flowered is often a duet in which the vocalist and accompanist share in interpretive importance. The pieces were most often written to be performed in a home or salon setting, although today the works enjoy popularity as concert pieces. The emergence of poetry during this era was much of what inspired the creation of these pieces by Brahms, Schumann, Schubert and other composers. These composers set poems in their native language. Many works were inspired by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Heinrich Heine. Another method would be to write new music for each stanza to create a unique form; this was through-composed form known in German as durchkomponiert. A combination of both of these techniques in a single setting was called a modified strophic form. Often romantic art songs sharing similar elements were grouped as a song cycle. (Kamien, 217–18)

A Change of Space

By switching rooms and recycling vintage elements, one couple transforms their kitchen on a tight budgetby Liz StrianeseSometimes you just know you'd be happy in a house, even when your entire extended family cringes looking at photographs of the mess you're considering buying. That's how it was with our fixer-upper.
Kitchen and dining room traded places The result was an efficient U-shaped kitchen tucked into a corner, making room for traffic to flow into the new dining room.
It had sat empty for at least four years. I finally stopped to peer through a window, past the tattered remains of a curtain, and saw that all the original details were intact. There were solid-wood pocket doors, Victorian ceiling medallions, and hardwood floors throughout. There were also signs of water damage, walls with peeling, discolored wallpaper, and several neighborhood animals, both domestic and wild, living inside. But it was just what my husband, Tom, and I were looking for: a house to resuscitate and bring back to its former glory. We bought the house, and after all the major structural and messy work was completed and the floors were refinished, we moved in. All the rooms still needed work, but we thought it made sense to turn to the kitchen first. Simple plans for a difficult roomWe both love to cook and wanted a beautiful, efficient kitchen that met our agreed-upon priorities: a sink facing a window that ideally looked out onto the garden; all the modern conveniences, including a state-of-the-art refrigerator, stove, and dishwasher; and glass-faced upper cabinets to display our collection of vintage dishes -- we're antiques dealers obsessed with dinnerware. But the tiny kitchen at the back of the house was not going to work. There were broken pipes, years of grease, and squirrels in residence. Adding insult to injury, the layout was completely dysfunctional: Old appliances were crammed into the small room, blocking windows and light. Three doorways into the room and one built-in floor-to-ceiling cabinet left us with wall space in approximately 14-inch increments. We drew up a series of unsuccessful floor plans. Upper cabinets wouldn"t work because of the intermittent wall space. And we couldn't plan for a long, continuous work surface because the windows started 2 feet above the floor, which would put counters at knee height. We grappled with closing up windows or blowing out walls. But we had enough major reconstruction to do without adding more. We were stumped.

Columbia River

The Columbia River drains a 259,000-square-mile basin that includes territory in seven states (Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Wyoming, and Utah) and one Canadian province. The river is arguably the most significant environmental force in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It flows for more than 1,200 miles, from the base of the Canadian Rockies in southeastern British Columbia to the Pacific Ocean at Astoria, Oregon, and Ilwaco, Washington. Although humans have lived along the river for more than 10,000 years, modern engineering in the 19th and 20th centuries has dramatically altered the Columbia. Some scientists believe that today the river is environmentally threatened and that drastic action should be taken to reverse the changes made to the Columbia during the last 150 years.

Mountain

IS A supervolcano brewing beneath Mount St Helens? Peering under the volcano has revealed what may be an extraordinarily large zone of semi-molten rock, which would be capable of feeding a giant eruption.Magma can be detected with a technique called magnetotellurics, which builds up a picture of what lies underground by measuring fluctuations in electric and magnetic fields at the surface. The fields fluctuate in response to electric currents travelling below the surface, induced by lightning storms and other phenomena. The currents are stronger when magma is present, since it is a better conductor than solid rock.

 The Word Of Nature
Every star in heaven, the earth every grain of gravel, stones on the moss, sky fluttering clouds, verdant grass children, delicate little bright wildflowers, quartzite bridge the morning dew cream, fly together The birds, the beautiful sea shells, Pteris snail, mysterious footprints on the snow, water lightly swimming fish, trees circle the ring ...... super much!
You get older and already know the word, and effortlessly read out on the street where a random sign. You do not go for medicine went to hair salons, pharmacies will not go go haircut. If people do not accompany you, you will easily find the road, just to give you the correct address, street names and house number. Writing really good stuff.
Understanding of the word, you can read the thick book, you can understand everything in the world. However, there are another set of text, this is Everyone who wants to become a truly educated person should know. This is the nature of the text. It is a total of tens of thousands of letters. Each a star in heaven is a letter. You are at the foot of each and gravel is also a letter. This set of characters who do not know the people, all the stars are all the same things. Recognize some people have a number of star names, and you can tell it what is the difference with the other stars. Like the words of the book is composed of the same letter, the sky is also the composition of the star constellation. Since ancient times, when sailors need to find the road at sea, they went Look at the stars written books.
You know, just would not stay on the water board traces, there are no words "this north" there are arrows guidepost. But sailors do not need such a guidepost. They have brought the needle of the compass needle always pointed north. Even if they do not have the compass, and they still can not be lost road. They looked skyward, and in many of them found the bear constellation constellation constellation in the Cubs were to find the North Star. There is the north side of the North Star. Online Tools Bind Great Power and Great Responsibility.

42's Data Center Calculators illustrate the dramatic cost and carbon savings through efficiency efforts.
IBM has built an extensive marketing campaign around "on-demand." Though the slogan has been more directed at their business patrons, the concept has become extremely relevant to our personal lives. We can have an entire musical catalog in minutes. Tracing our family histories doesn't require exhaustive research, only points and clicks. Forget the mall on Black Friday; Amazon, Apple, and Abercrombie.com are always open. A generation of young scholars need never experience card catalogs, microfiche, or the Dewey Decimal System.
These web services-music downloads, shopping, research-were once a novelty. Now they are globally pervasive and presumed to be as automatic as death and taxes.
But there are consequences to this on-demand lifestyle. Few think about the bevy of servers to process this data or the vast storage systems to house it. Fewer think about the energy needed to run this equipment perpetually-24x7x365. Even fewer appreciate the costs for all parties involved, including our ecosystem. Research suggests a single server operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, emits as much CO2 as a Toyota Camry driving 15,000 miles per year. There are thousands of servers in thousands of server rooms, labs, and data centers across the country.
The Gigawatt Age In 2006, peak demand from US data centers was estimated at seven (7) gigawatts. One (1) gigawatt represents one million kilowatts (kW) or one billion watts (W).
This is but one of the remarkable statistics concerning servers, data centers, and energy:
* The average Data Center consumes as much energy as 25,000 households (Parrino, 2009) * Data Centers are expected to surpass the Airline Industry in greenhouse emissions by 2020 (Parrino, 2009) * In Northern California, the home of Silicon Valley, data center energy consumption amounts to 400 megawatts to 500 megawatts (Scofield & Weaver, 2008). The consumption is so concentrated that Pacific Gas and Electric, a utility local to Silicon Valley, has presented six-figure rebates for companies that design for efficiency day one. * The majority of data centers are overcooled and run far less efficiently than they could be.
The Environmental Protection Agency, in a 2007 report to Congress, relayed the most staggering numbers. Data center energy use in 2006 hit 61 billion kilowatt hours at a cost of $4.5 billion. By 2011, these numbers could hit 100 billion kilowatt hours and $7.5 billion if the industry takes a laissez-faire approach to efficiency. Though these servers are mostly out of sight, they are certainly not out of mind for industry authorities. Attend any data center conference or tradeshow and you are guaranteed to find "efficiency" and "green data center" topics in the program.
The attention is warranted. The continued growth of computing in our professional and personal lives begs the question: If consumption is extreme now, what may lay ahead in the future?
The Business Case Despite this sobering news, a simple fact remains: businesses are businesses. While environmental responsibility and stewardship are great for press releases and corporate web sites, most businesses require a cogent business case to undertake efficiency improvements, especially in light of a poor economy. Coupled with the traditional disconnect between IT/Facilities and a lot of new terms and metrics, many data center professionals may not know how and where to begin efficiency efforts.
To help data center professionals tackle the important but complex topic of efficiency, 42U has developed two, free interactive calculators, available on 42U.com. These online tools hope to align all stakeholders in an ongoing data center efficiency program, where significant savings and operational improvements are possible.
PUE/DCiE Calculator Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) is a new term in the data center lexicon, comparing a data center's total energy requirement to the energy consumed by the IT load. A smaller result is better, as it means more energy is devoted to the IT process (the denominator) while less energy is lost in conversion and support loads (minimizing the numerator).
For example: Total Facility Load: 200kW/ Total IT Load: 120kW = 1.66 PUE Data Center Infrastructure Efficiency (DCiE) is simply the inverse of PUE, allowing efficiency to be expressed as a percentage: Total IT load: 120kW/ Total Facility Load: 200kW x 100 = 60% DCiE.
With 42U's PUE Calculator, a data center operator does not need to know the origin or intricacies of PUE. If he can access his IT load (from the UPS), and his facility load (from the meter), he receives an initial PUE score.
The calculations then go a step further. Using the PUE score, the built-in energy function estimates total annual energy use, annual energy expense, and annual carbon footprint. For data center professionals who don't have energy bills or reports readily available, the calculator provides a brief snapshot into the energy profile of their facilities.
Energy Savings Calculator For more detailed calculations, 42U's Energy Savings Calculator makes use of the same formulas to project energy and CO2 savings over one, five, and ten years.
Users start with their current PUE and then set a goal PUE- a lower value that's the result of improvements relevant to their facility. The difference between current PUE and goal PUE accounts for the potential energy and cost savings.
Simple math shows that modest improvements can have considerable effect. A 1 megawatt facility (total load) at $.08 per kWh can save over $70K in energy costs and 528 Tons of CO2 emissions in going from a 2.0 PUE to a 1.8 PUE.
If data center professionals are contemplating efficiency improvements, they can compare the cost of proposed solutions with their energy savings to determine their payback period.
Equally if not more important are the potential capital expenditure savings (CAPEX). A more efficient data center reduces the need for additional equipment assets and potentially eliminates the need for construction projects. The CAPEX savings, in avoiding construction, have proven to be 5-6 times the OPEX savings achieved in making a data center more efficient, not to mention the underlying CO2 or GHG savings.
Conclusion PUE is a key ingredient in these online tools. Though not everyone has calculated it, the metric has perhaps gained the most traction of any in the industry. One of the reasons it succeeds is simplicity.
With data centers, one-size-fits-all is uncommon. But every data center requires power to carry out its function. Every data center, by definition, has a portion of that power dedicated to IT equipment. PUE simply compares these values.
While PUE appears to be universal as a formula, the results are a different story. What one data center can achieve may not be relevant to another. For instance, PUE is a dynamic value that varies over time and with workloads. A facility in its infancy, with nominal loads, would be hard pressed to obtain an optimal PUE. Then there's Google, who continues to rewrite the book on data center design and operation. They recently unveiled a data center in Belgium that operates without chillers. On those days when it's too hot outside, Google can shift that data center's workload to another-a distinct advantage of a comprehensive, mirrored data center network. Not every enterprise has that luxury.
So, while the cloud giants of the world publish and promote PUE numbers that hover between 1.15 and 1.25, we encourage data center professionals to take a critical look at what they can do to optimize their unique space. No one shares the exact same layout, equipment, applications, floor space, and set of challenges. Figure out what efficiency program aligns with your facility, your budget, and your goals. These online tools provide an excellent starting point for those conversations.

Do you know love needs five kinds of languages?

People are yearning for perfect love since ancient times. Plato once talked about an ancient myth: "a long time ago, people had four legs, four hands, with enormous strength. Because of the desecration of the gods, people was cut in half to show their punishment. Since then, the poor person continually attempted to find the lost other half to make up for this deficiency. "But this fascinated love only has a short life. After the passion is over, people go into the reality of marriage, personal real desire, mood and behavior patterns will display the cloven hoof.
The well-known American Marriage consultant Gary • Chapman often hear the complaints of many partners because of work. After 20 years of research, he discovered that everyone needed a "love language", which can be divided into five kinds, namely, positive words, aborative moment, accept gifts, services type of action and physical contact.
Positive words. The deepest needs of human beings is the feeling of being appreciated. For those with low sense of security and with feelings of inferiority, lack a sense of security would be the lack of courage. At this time, if the spouse can give some positive words, including the encouragement, affirmation, and kindness, often will stimulate each other's great potential.
Aborative moment. Do you pay attention before that men and women dining together, the state has a big difference before and after marriage: the former will be full of affectionate attention, while the latter look around. That is regarded as"aborative-moment" and it must be preoccupied conversation, or a dinner meal that only belongs to the two of you, or it can be walking together hand in hand. Activity content is a secondary. The emphasis is taking the time to seize the other's full attention.
Acceptance of gifts. Gift is a concrete symbol of love, is a thing to remind each other "I love you". This is the most easy language of love to learn.
Service-style operations. This refers to do what the spouse wants you to do. Service her ot him, make her or him happy. When in love, services for the other side are voluntary, and even scheming. But after being married many people become lazy, and such a state is of no good.
Physical contact. Body contact is a subtle way to communicate for human feeling, and also a powerful tool for expressing love. Sex life is one of the ways of love words. Holding hands, kiss, hug, stroking also are effective. For some people, physical contact is their main language of love. Lack of it, people will not feel loved.

How much is that doggy in the window?
The one with the waggley tail may seem like a bargain these days compared to the dog with the $3,000 pacemaker. Or the cat with the $8,000 kidney transplant. Or the pet chicken undergoing radiation therapy after cancer surgery.
Medical care for pets now rivals medical care for humans, with veterinary oncologists, neurologists, cardiologists and other specialists providing high tech, big-bucks treatment for Fido and Fluffy.
But when cats have chemo and dogs have dialysis, their owners have something too: unexpected ethical issues triggered by enormous medical bills.
“Is the 15-year-old tabby worth $12,000 in dialysis?” asks a newspaper story with the nagging headline: Do some pet owners go a little too far?
“I admit sometimes questioning the reality of spending $11,000 on my cat when there are greater human needs,” said a California college professor, who readily paid for feline chemotherapy and pancreatitis treatment.
U.S. pet owners will spend more than $24 billion this year on pet medical care, an amount greater than the gross domestic product of more than half of the world’s countries.
But when man’s best friend is a integral member of the family, the question of whether it’s appropriate to spend top-dollar for animal medical care is often more emotional than financial. With the unconditional love, friendship, and support of a beloved companion at stake, many pet owners feel they don’t have the option of not providing—and paying for—expensive medical care.
It’s not a simple issue, said one veterinarian. When you hear of a medical bill of $14,000 for a dog, he explained, people ask, “Should you not just buy a new dog and give the money to charity? That, I have to say, is a non-starter of an argument. You then have to ask all sorts of questions about how people spend their money—should they spend it on big cars?”
Tell us what you think: When it comes to expensive veterinary medical care, is it more responsible to pay for a pet or perhaps give the money to charity instead?

Why Learning Soft Skills is important for your success?

Professional skills have little value if you have poor soft skills. The skills alone are no guarantee of success. In this fast changing world, it has become all the more important to improve soft skills – these are skills that last a lifetime. Have you wondered why soft skills are given so much importance in every leadership or managerial role or business? Have you often wondered why the person next door is “not so intelligent but still so successful?” Still wondering "why soft skills? Haven't I worked hard enough on my degrees?"
1. Certification is not an end in itself. Soft skills do matter: To make any headway in any field, you need to be solid on the ground with hard know-how. And the industry requires you to fortify yourself on a continuous basis with up-to-date knowledge and concepts. Training, certification, the Internet, books and the like are all opportunities available for lifelong learning. But what about learning soft skills? Certification and academics are not an ends in themselves – time to learn soft skills.
One needs to develop and constantly improve soft skills to create opportunity. What is the use of other skills if nobody knows you’ve got such skills? Its wakeup time - keep the right perspective: your value, not just your technical expertise, is your power.
2. Improve soft skills = guaranteed career leap: Let’s look at specific ways in which improving soft skills can help professionals advance their careers. To bring value to organization and clients, industries are getting more involved in many activities to carry out their tasks. Your interpersonal skills should be top notch to deliver results with your colleagues and people you must work with. As a project manager, how do you motivate other members of your team? You may need to work and interact with accountants and customer service staff to develop the company’s new business software. So it’s just not what you know but how well you handle and explain it to people.
No matter how “good” you think you are you will not get the marks you feel you deserve if can’t communicate well with colleagues or clients. In fact, the perception might be that you are not competent. But when you interact better with the people you have to work with, your performance tends to improve and they go away with a positive impression. And the meaning of positive impression is more opportunity, more responsibility. In our soft skills courses in mumbai, we bring in hands on team and self development exercises (on group discussion, public speaking, positive imaging, creative thinking and many more) to bring an enjoyable, open-minded way of improving soft skills.
3. Soft skills empower you and create opportunities in every area of life: The main benefit of soft skills is empowerment. How does your professional skill translate to value? How do you create opportunity? Soft skills are useful for creating and taking advantage of opportunities – jobs, career and business. No matter how great your technical or “on-the-job” skills are, when job hunting, your marketing skills should be first-class. Otherwise others who may not be as capable as you, but who have better marketing skills might beat you to the jobs or work you want. There are opportunities in industry. But there are also challenges and competition. In such a competitive environment, perception often reigns supreme.
If your professional competencies are similar to those of other candidates then how do you differentiate yourself? You claim to be a technical wizard. The problem however, and this is a big however, is how do I know if you are good if you can’t sell what you have - yourself or your ideas? Your certifications and previous work experience are important. But the issue at stake is this: can you convince the interviewer or clients that you will solve their problems and deliver value? At our soft skills training in mumbai, we use several techniques to empower you, to improve your soft skills and deliver learnings in soft skills that last a lifetime.
4. Soft skills not only improve your career, they also offer personal growth: Still wondering “why soft skills?? Haven’t I worked hard enough on my academics?” Interestingly, the improving soft skills also empowers you by building flexibility into your future career plans. How? Most soft skills are regarded as transferable skills, e.g. communication, project management, business and team work, which are needed in nearly all aspects of life, not just for your career alone. You need to grow not just as a professional but also as a person. Yes! Improving soft skills will even improve the way to handle your our loved ones – your elders, your friends - your entire personal world!

Water

Water is one of the most essential of elements. No animals or plants can survive without water. Even the animals which live in the desert need water to carry on their physiological processes of the body. So we can say that water is as important as the air that we breathe. In that case we have to consider ourselves really lucky because we are the citizens of a country which has more than 6 thousand rivers and streams within its borders. However, the reality doesn't suggest us to be excited about that because water scarcity is at the same time one of the burning problems that we are facing. It is very ironic that we should live that way. The main victims of this problem are the people living in the capital city, which is the biggest and the most populated city of Nepal. A long line of buckets can be seen before all taps and natural springs. People sometimes fight for water and it's a terrible tragedy that people have to go through this when Nepal is one of the richest countries in water resources.
The problem has already reached alarming heights. The people celebrate when water comes to their taps like the way they celebrate their birthdays or their promotion day. It is an occasion. Hardly anyone can afford to bathe or wash his or her clothes regularly.
It's high time we started making an effort to do something from our side and not just blame the government for the problem. The first and the foremost things that each one of us can do is stop misusing the water and try to create public awareness. The government has the biggest responsibility and should take this problem with seriousness and make prompt decisions and implement them as soon as possible. The water distribution schemes should be planned out systematically. Then only, the public will get some relief and we all can take the pride of the huge water resources that our country possesses.

My Music

There are different types of music. Each country and community has its own kind of music. There are folk, classical and jazz which is the old type of music but as everything else, music too has undergone a lot of change with the passage of time. Today, the more popular forms of music are rock, rap, hip-hop and pop. These are basically western music.
Music has a lot of advantages. It has medical uses too. Sick people are made to listen to music as doctors say that music has healing and soothing powers. Many sick people have become well after they were made to listen to music. It is also said that if cows are made to listen to music, they give more milk. No marriage party or get together is complete without music. Some communities sing and play musical instruments when someone dies. All the TV shows and movies have some form of background or live music. In other words, music is a very important part of our lives.
Music is a very big industry. It has made millionaires out of poor kids. The examples are there to be seen. People like The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Jimmy Hendrix and the Indian Gulshan Kumar. There are thousands of others like them. It is not just the singers and musicians who make money but the other people associated with the industry too make a lot of money. The industry is not just about making money for some people. It also employs a lot of people that in turn allows them to have food and send their children to school in all music plays an role in the economy of a country.
The Nepali music industry is a very small but a growing one. Nowadays, we find a lot of professional musicians who make a living out of music. Either by playing instrument at recordings and live shows or singing. There also are people who are employed by the studies and cassette marketing companies.
If children show interest in music, the parents should encourage them send them to proper music schools to learn to read and write music. Many parents think that music is a waste of time but they should realise that times have change since they were kids. Today's music industry is a hundred times bigger than what it was 30 years ago, so if the children are encouraged, one never knows if one has a future Jim Morrison growing in the house.
